A person who engages in entrepreneurship is said to be innovative in taking business ideas and using the ideas to produce financial profits. This could be done by creating new businesses or by expanding the operations of existing ones. Most people who practice entrepreneurship are involved in business entrepreneurship - making new businesses to create profit. Other types of entrepreneurship do exist, such as political or social entrepreneurship. In the United States, business entrepreneurship is quite high and experts believe that nearly half of all men will attempt to start a business before they retire. While the majority of these business attempts ultimately result in failure, the ones that succeed are what help the country to grow by leaps and bounds.

The history of business entrepreneurship actually dates back several centuries, but it is only in the last century that the practice has become commonplace as starting a business has become much easier. Today’s entrepreneur has many different funding sources, from starting a single person company with low expenses to using venture capital to turn an idea into a working business. Angel funding can also be a frequent form of obtaining money for business entrepreneurship. In angel funding, the investor does not ask for a high degree of return on the investment and prefers to be involved with the actual creation of the business. In addition, the presence of many government agencies in the United States that assist with entrepreneurship makes the funding easier to obtain.

The reason that the United States and other countries aggressively assist entrepreneurship in their nations is that the practice has been shown to have a direct effect on the economic growth. New business entrepreneurship projects create more jobs and additional wealth for the residents of the nation. There are many workshops available to train interested people how to successfully start an entrepreneurship project and even a Global Entrepreneurship Week that is celebrated around the world as a way of bringing entrepreneurs together. It is this type of support that has created record numbers of entrepreneurs across the globe.

When speaking of a person that practices entrepreneurship, they are also given the same labels as a leader. In fact, many of the nation’s leaders began as entrepreneurs and then parlayed their success in the business world into governmental and other ventures. Many books have been written about the subject to try and identify what makes a successful entrepreneur. Their findings indicate that the most successful have a higher than normal sense of confidence and are willing to take risks where others may be content in the same conditions without making a change. True entrepreneurship also displays a willingness to explore options instead of accepting the given reality of a business situation.
